The Sands of Tim - The Beginning

At first, I'm not sure whether to write my first ever blog entry in English or in Tagalog. It would be a lot easier for me to actually say things in Tagalog, but I'd rather do it in English - at least, some of my non-Filipino friends will be able to understand my ramblings when they read them (if they ever will).

For my non-Filipino friends, Tagalog is a widely-spoken dialect in the Philippines.

Ok. I know some of you who read this may wonder why I keep saying "non-Filipino" instead of just "foreign". That is because, at the time I was writing this entry, I am in Kabul, so obviously, me and my non-Filipino, non-Afghan friends are all foreigners here.

Anyway, since this is the beginning of everything (that concerns my act of blogging), I'd like to explain why I named my blog The Sands of Tim...

A few weeks ago, I watched this movie which starred Jake Gyllenhaal (not sure of the spelling) entitled Prince of Persia. I found this movie really entertaining, but I'm not planning to delve more into it since I'm not into writing movie reviews. Anyway, this was where I got the idea "Sands of Tim" from (for those who have watched it, they sure know). It really depicts what, who, where, whatever I am now (save for Jake's notable role in Brokeback Mountain har har). Desert, hour glass, middle-easterns (or Persians), good looking, etc .. etc.. The elements on the movie do have striking resemblance of everything that I am now. So I'm glad, I really don't  have to think much about how to name this blog.

So much for the introduction. Actually, I don't plan for this blog to appear like a documentary about me, because frankly, I'm not that interesting (sheeshhh... I, myself, even find myself boring). So forgive me if my write-ups do not appear to be coherent. Hey, it's just like my brain - sabog.. (sabog - Tagalog for scattered).

Here's the first picture that I will post. Something you won't see in my Facebook account.

Ok that's me right there, the one holding the "God Save the Queen" banner. What on earth drove me to pose like that?

In 2002, I joined our University's dance company, the Salinggawi Dance Troupe. We staged a concert/dance contest that time, entitled Dansurge. The theme is something about War and Peace. I was with the Script/Production committee - they put me in there with a bunch of AB geniuses simply because I was a member of our college's student publication. We posed for this pictorial that should showcase our ability to act and dance War-inspired scenarios, and since I'm the only one from a business course, I decided to be the most artistic.

It turned out that I appeared to be the most pathetic.

Nota bene: Don't ask me what do the clotheline and portable ladder gotta do with "War and Peace".

So guys, I can now say that after the example I showed above.. you may now have a clue of what's this blog's going to be about. That's right - this blog's gonna show how pathetic I am with a lot of things - after being exceedingly happy thinking that I'm gonna look good (like I always do). It's just like when you hold a handful of sand, and you get too excited over it, and you tend to loose it faster as you tighten your grip. Life has been just like that to me.. I get over-excited at things and I end up dumbfounded.

Well you see, unlike Venus Raj, I have MAJOR MAJOR mistakes, puns, problems and stupidities in life. I'd like to share them. Sharing them makes the world crazier. Nonetheless, they make us appreciate successes in life more.

Anyway, before I go, I'd like to leave you guys a short one-sentence prayer you can include in your own.

Lord, when I am about to sin, make me remember how much You love me that I may ward off the temptation, not because of fear of punishment, but because I dare not to miss the chance to reciprocate Your love.

Got to go now. Meanwhile I leave you these pictures. Feast your eyes on them, everyone.    - champ091610

- Malaybalay Bukidnon - the entire meal (well they're already in our stomachs) cost us roughly 700 pesos ($15) for the whole 6 of us (including the one who took the picture, Emerson). Can you believe that???

Wild Boar in Davao City, Philippines
Davao, Philippines - forget the endangered Philippine Monkey-Eating Eagle, my attention was really focused on this beast. It's so cute! I'd like to take it home and turn it to sisig.. (Sisig - a native Filipino dish)

White Water Rafting - Cagayan de Oro River

Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines - Don't blame me - blame the catalogue. It clearly says there "White Water" so I just followed suit. Anyway, the water's brown because it just rained but this river is clean, otherwise, I would not have swam in it. And YES dear, I've  done this already.

*Thanks to the special participation of Emerson Galvez, Madam Cyla Celarta, Lucy Centeno, Elisheba de Vera , Joelian Abuda, Lyza Viejo, and Danen Paul Andres on the pictures I posted. None of whom, have given me their permisision. (Hope you guys won't sue me)
